Marcos Maroccolo was introduced to the world of martial arts at the age of 6, beginning with Judo under the guidance of Sensei Edson Schutz. At age 14, he was introduced to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu by his neighbour Bruno Vieira and immediately started training in Bruno’s garage. One year later, a BJJ Professor called Eduardo Martins opened the first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in Marco’s hometown, Sobradinho DF, Brazil under the flag of Professor Adimilson “Juquinha” Brites. Marcos promptly joined and started training. Through his close friendship with Professor Eduardo, Marcos met Juquinha and frequently trained at his gym.

As many BJJ fans will know, Juquinha holds the record for most medals in the IBJJF. For those that don’t know, Professor Juquinha is a senior practitioner within the Gracie Lineage who learned from and trained directly under Master Royler Gracie, son of Grand Master Hélio Gracie, father and co-founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Marcos has trained under Professor Juquinha for 21 years and continues to represent Team Juquinha here in Australia. After leaving Brazil at the end of 2005 Marcos continued to learn many other renowned BJJ and Judo Masters and Professors in Europe, USA and Australia. During his travels Marcos also passed on his knowledge and experience gained through his access to the elite Gracie Lineage teaching in gyms, schools and police academies around the world.
